It's one of those cases that makes you shake your head.

A man had to be rescued in the area of the Schneefernerkopf because he could no longer dismount on his own - due to inadequate equipment.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen - Bad equipment was a man's undoing last Sunday. With no light, only thin clothing and sneakers, he was out and about in the Zugspitze area - until he got stuck in the snow and was forced to make the emergency call. The mountain rescue service Garmisch-Partenkirchen brought the blocked man safely back into the valley.

The alert was received shortly before 5 p.m.

The rescuers located the person looking for help in the area of the Schneefernerkopf in rocky terrain.

An employee of the Zugspitzbahn went up to him for first aid.

In the meantime, the emergency team went up by cable car with three mountain rescuers, who made their way from the Sonnalpin through sometimes waist-deep snow.

They reached the man around 6:30 p.m.

On site, the mountain rescuers were able to provide the slightly hypothermic with warm drinks.

They then packed it in a bivouac sack and pushed it down through the snow, secured on a short rope, to the Sonnalpin, from where the cable car went down to the valley.

The mission ended around 8:30 p.m.
