The number of Corona virus infections in the American continent has exceeded 100 million, more than half of them are in the United States of America.
The Pan American Health Organization said in a statement today that the United States recorded 51 million infections, compared to 22 million in Brazil, noting also that Omicron infections were detected in 19 countries and regions on the continent.
WHO Director-General Carissa Etienne called on countries to maintain their health measures to reduce transmission of the virus.
According to the organization, the majority of countries in the Americas are supposed to have reached or exceeded the target set by the World Health Organization by the end of the year of vaccinating 40 percent of the population eligible to receive vaccines against the Corona virus.
