(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 28 - Advice is coming to celebrate New Year's Eve in the best possible way and make the laid table less "heavy" but always greedy. To suggest them, in order to start 2022 with the best intentions and to maintain health and not become overweight without giving up the pleasures of conviviality, is the Italian Association of hospital gastroenterologists and digestive endoscopists (Aigo). The Aigo doctors, in their handbook, affirm that at the end of the year dinner it is difficult to give up the toast, but remember that it is important to know that in men the maximum daily dose is 1-2 glasses of wine, while in women 1 glass. The experts, appealing to common sense and the rules of the Mediterranean diet, also point out that even in healthy subjects theAlcohol can cause reflux or burning symptoms even in moderate doses. Doctors particularly point out that the patient with liver disease should not drink alcohol, while the patient with functional disorders, such as irritable bowel, can indulge in a toast. Regarding the foods typically found on the tables during the Christmas period, doctors emphasize that they are notoriously richer in animal fats and sugars, elements that can promote disorders such as poor digestion, abdominal bloating, gastroesophageal reflux, being difficult to digest even for people in good health. Aigo therefore argues, without demonizing gastronomic excellence, that it is good to keep in mind that in some people with difficulty in absorbing lactose, fresh dairy products, creams and dips can promote ailments and diarrhea. Specifically, the importance of vegetables in nutrition is recalled, but also to control wrong "behaviors" such as the speed in food intake, the habit of smoking between meals, the sedentary lifestyle after a meal.

Doctors recommend some physical exercise to aid digestion and improve glycemic regulation.
