Storm low Nadja hits Brandenburg and keeps the fire brigades across the country on their toes.

In Beelitz, a pedestrian is fatally hit by a falling election poster.

Beelitz – Storm depression “Nadja” also swept over Brandenburg with some hurricane-like gusts on Sunday night.

The control centers of the fire brigades reported hundreds of operations, mainly because of fallen trees or covered house roofs.

In Beelitz (Potsdam-Mittelmark), a pedestrian was fatally injured by a falling election poster.

The man died a little later, said a spokesman for the police situation service on Sunday.

The poster fell on the man shortly after 10 p.m. on Saturday evening after a strong gust of wind, the situation service reported.

But there were no other injuries.

The "BZ" (Online) had first reported on the fatal accident.

The poster was put up on the occasion of the district election next Sunday in Potsdam-Mittelmark.

The Pirates' candidate, Meiko Rachimov, declared his election campaign over after the fatal accident.

Rachimov explained that his election banners on the large billboards would be taken down on Sunday.

The fire brigade control center in Brandenburg/Havel reports more than 100 operations at night due to fallen trees, covered roofs and overturned election posters.

The Lausitz fire brigade control center in Cottbus also reported around 150 operations, mainly due to fallen trees.

In Drahnsdorf (Dahme-Spreewald), the storm tore a wing of a wind turbine, said the spokesman for the control center.

Nobody got hurt.

The Northeast control center was initially unable to provide any information on numbers because too many operations were still running, according to a spokeswoman.

The same was the situation in the east of the country at the Oderland regional control center.

"The air is burning here," said the operations manager.
