A day after the attack in Be'er Sheva, the government announced today (Wednesday) that it will establish 10 new settlements in the Negev region.

The government will approve the move at a meeting this coming Sunday.

According to the plan.

Five new settlements called "Mevoot Arad settlements" will be established as part of the development of the settlement basin in the Negev.

A statement from the Ministries of the Interior and Housing stated that the establishment of the new settlements is of national importance in the eastern metropolis of Beersheba and north of the Arab city.

In addition, the first government decision to establish 5 additional settlements along the Beer Sheva-Dimona axis (Route 25) will be approved.

The government will discuss issuing a directive to examine the establishment of five additional new settlements and an employment area.

Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked said: "On Sunday, a historic and exciting government decision will be passed that is of strategic and national importance that will give significant power to strengthen settlement in the Negev."

The minister added that "this is an important step that reflects more than any diverse social-planning policy that seeks to strengthen the periphery while encouraging new and young settlement."

"10 new localities in the Negev are the Zionist enterprise in all its glory," Shaked noted.

"We continue to flourish the wilderness in the Negev and fulfill Ben-Gurion's vision. This is a tremendous achievement and great news for the citizens of the State of Israel and for the Negev in general."

The Minister of Construction and Housing, Zeev Elkin, said: "Promoting the establishment of new settlements in the Negev is the vision of Zionist settlement. The establishment of new settlements will move residents from the center of the country south, strengthen the Negev economy and increase security throughout the region. Both in order to develop new localities and to strengthen the existing localities. "
