The country's media have published documentation of damage to the memorial in Drowitzky Yar, a site where 20,000 Jews were murdered near the city of Kharkiv.

The Ukrainian media published today (Saturday) documentation of an attack on a Holocaust memorial near the city of Kharkiv in the east of the country.

The publication claims that the Russian army is behind the act.

The Facebook page of the Ukrainian Embassy in Israel reads: "Another memorial to the victims of the Holocaust was destroyed by Russian barbarians in Ukraine. This time - Drowitzky

Yar, near Kharkov where 15,000 Jews were executed by Nazis during World War II.

"And pregnant women. The Russians repeat the crimes of the Nazis, over and over and over again."

A published image does show damage to the monument, which is similar in shape to a lamp.

It is not clear what caused the damage, whether it was a bombing or shelling or simply the vandalism of soldiers.

The monument is located outside the city of Kharkiv near a main road and may have been damaged when the road was bombed by the narrow Russian forces on the city from three directions.

Independent sources have not yet reached the area to verify the damage.

At the Dobritsi Yar site, more than 20,000 members of the Jewish community of Kharkiv were murdered by the Nazis.

Along with the Jews, thousands of Soviet prisoners and patients from the city's hospitals were also murdered.
