The Latakia Fire Brigade put out a fire in the asphalt mound on the Lattakia highway belonging to the branch of the General Company for Roads and Bridges, and the damage was limited to material.
The commander of the regiment, Lt. Col. Muhannad Jaafar, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the regiment's members worked to control the fire that ignited with the burning of fuel and spread to a number of nearby barrels filled with fuel, pointing out that the elements were able to prevent the fire from spreading towards the main tanks containing asphalt and fuel.
In turn, the director of the company's branch, Engineer Shadi Al-Liwa, indicated that the fire broke out in the fuel burner as a result of an electrical short circuit, and the fire was quickly controlled and extinguished, stressing that work on the site will resume immediately after cleaning it.
