A man in India managed to stay in a five-star hotel in the capital New Delhi for nearly two years - without paying the bill. Police received a complaint from the managers of the Rosette House Hotel near the city's airport when they discovered the scam 603 days late. He owes the hotel five million rupees, or about $70,30.
The hotel managers claimed that the man was assisted by staff members, who helped him hide the growing bills. According to the BBC, no one has been arrested in connection with the affair, which was already reported to the local police about a month ago but has only now been published in the local media.
According to the Indian Express, the same man, whose details have not been released, arrived at the hotel on May 2019, 22 for one night only - but stayed at the hotel until January 50 last year. Although he did not pay, it was alleged that one member of staff extended his stay, either by using other guests' accounts or simply transferring them from one to one.
"According to hotel rules, if a guest owes more than <>,<> rupees, the staff should inform the management and pressure the guest to pay. However, this has not been done," a senior police officer told the newspaper.
