Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said Arab countries seeking to normalize relations with Israel were "betting on a losing horse," Iran's official media quoted him as saying on Tuesday. "The Islamic Republic's clear position is that countries that gamble on normalization with Israel will lose. They are betting on a losing horse," Khamenei said.

The Iranian Supreme Leader's remarks were made in light of Saudi Arabia's contacts with Israel under the auspices of the United States on normalization between the countries. The United Arab Emirates and Bahrain already established relations with Israel under the Abraham Accords in 2020, but an agreement with Saudi Arabia would be the most dramatic of all given the Sunni kingdom's regional and religious status.
