US President Joe Biden spoke with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday following the deadly Hamas attack, stressing that the United States "stands with Israel and fully supports Israel's right to defend itself." The prime minister thanked the president for his "unconditional support" and made it clear that "a sustained powerful campaign will be required in which Israel will win."
In addition to Biden, other senior US administration officials have expressed their support for Israel. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said the Pentagon "will work to ensure that Israel has what it takes to defend itself." At the same time, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan spoke with his colleague, National Security Council head Tzachi Hanegbi.
