Local elections are expected on October 31, but events in Gaza have led to further consideration. Following the state of war and appeals by many elected officials to the Interior Ministry to postpone the elections, the interior minister is expected to announce the postponement of the elections to January by another three months.
The referral press has begun in recent days. One of the mayors turned to the minister: "We are burying our child, democracy can wait several months." Ran Connick, mayor of Givatayim, said: "It seems that there is no choice but to postpone the elections and I assume that this is what will happen, Israel is at war and another that has not known for decades. There is currently no possibility of dealing with local elections, and nothing will happen if they are postponed by a month.
In a statement, the election committee said yesterday: "As of now, no decision has been made on postponing the elections, and operational preparations are continuing as usual according to the backup plans that the Interior Ministry prepared in advance for a war scenario as well."
