After the establishment of the small security cabinet, the government is now working on the establishment of a small civilian cabinet that will deal with all civilian issues related to the war, Israel Hayom has learned.

On Thursday night, the prime minister summoned the finance minister for a conversation and asked him to head a civilian cabinet – a kind of interim prime minister to deal with the civilian side of the war. Smotrich, for his part, asked for time to talk with other ministers, to see how the systems could be mobilized, and what the implications of such work would be, and the two agreed that he would give an answer at the beginning of the week.
Powers in practice
The establishment of such a civilian cabinet will include all non-military issues – working with the families affected, finding housing for evacuees injured in kibbutzim and throughout the southern region, education and studies, welfare work, compensation for businesses, rehabilitation of the affected areas, and more.
The goal is for Smotrich to establish a small cabinet team with three or four other ministers involved in the matter, such as the interior minister, the welfare minister, the education minister, and a representative of the ministers of the state camp on the complex and painful issue that will accompany the State of Israel in the coming months.
