Captain (Res.) Yaakov Nedelin, 36, from Or Akiva in the reserves, was killed yesterday (Friday) evening by gunfire by our forces near the village of Imtin in Samaria.

Initial investigations indicate that a force of IDF soldiers engaged in operational activity chased suspects who threw stones at a military vehicle and fired at a suspicious vehicle. At the same time, another force that jumped in following the report arrived at the scene, apparently hit by the gunfire. Nedelin was killed and an IDF soldier who was nearby sustained minor injuries.

Military police have opened an investigation into the incident. The IDF Spokesperson also reported that efforts are being made in the division and its uniqueness to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents. Since the beginning of the fighting, there have been a number of incidents of bilateral fire, some of them fatal.
