The 96th edition of the Spanish Open of golf speaks French. In Madrid, Mathieu Pavon celebrated his first title on the DP World Tour with a score of 261 (63 68 6664, -23) strokes, four less than South African Zander Lombard, 2nd with 265 (-19) ahead of England's Nathan Kimsey, 3rd with 266 (-18).
On the course of the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid (par 71), Edoardo Molinari from Turin, 28th with 274 (69 66 70 69, -10), detached Guido Migliozzi from Vicenza by three strokes, 47th with 277 (69 68 72 68, -7).
The son and grandson of two former footballers (his father Michel played for Bordeaux, his grandfather Pepito for Marseille), Mathieu Pavon dominated the scene in Spain. The win earned him €523,823 out of a total prize pool of $3,250,000.
Nothing to do for Jon Rahm. Favorite of the home crowd, after the 'treble' signed last year, the world number three this time did not go beyond 9th place (270, -14), but gave a show in the last round where he made eight birdies, with a bogey (for him partial of 64, -7).
