A heavy burden fell on the Siminowitz family from Herzliya upon learning of the death of 19-year-old Sergeant Lior, a soldier in Givati. Father Yaron, mother Yafit and brother Omri received the bitter news last night. Lior was promoted to corporal after his death.
"At around 1:15 p.m., we received a definite identification that he had fallen," Yaron said painfully. "You have to be strong. He made sure to talk to everyone, to say he was okay. Also called aunt and grandmother. He was motivated. Said they would come in and protect us. He said, 'Come on, they want to come in.' He wanted so badly to be in Givati, so glad he was accepted."

Yafit said: "Every other day he called and we talked. Everyone says about their son that he is magic, but he really was magic. It's incomprehensible. He took life easy, said, 'Don't worry, it'll be fine. I felt proud that she was in Givati, but on the other hand there were also concerns. We share in the grief of the other families. It's incomprehensible, the heart is torn. You hurt for others and in the end it gets to you."
Omri, 17, said: "We had a really good relationship. I liked him very much. I hope he's happy upstairs."
The father had an important message to convey: "The people must be united right now. We have to win together, we have no choice."
The date of Lior's funeral has not yet been determined.
