The Foreign Ministry responded with an attack of its own after Erdogan's move: "The Turkish government's decision to recall the ambassador for consultations at a time when the State of Israel is engaged in a war of self-defense forced on it by a terrorist organization worse than ISIS is another step by the Turkish president who stands with the Hamas terrorist organization."
Turkey decided on the move, although President Recep Erdogan stated that he was not currently considering severing ties with Israel. Erdogan also said that "Netanyahu is no longer someone to talk to."

The Israeli Foreign Ministry added: "Hamas terrorists murdered, massacred and executed more than 1,400 people and kidnapped 240 into Gaza, including babies, children, women and the elderly.
"Moreover, Hamas terrorists use the population of Gaza as human shields, preventing them from crossing safe areas and stealing fuel, food and drinking water from them. Hamas is the real enemy of the Palestinian people and commits war crimes and crimes against humanity."
