Highlights: Since the 1979 revolution, Iran has sought to expand its ring of threats against Israel and the United States. Iran has strengthened its ties with terrorist organizations operating in the Middle East and built the "Resistance Camp" Iran will not throw all its protégés into the battle at once, certainly not Hezbollah, but will operate its assets according to their level of importance in its eyes. The deeper the ground incursion into Gaza and the greater the voices of a humanitarian disaster in the Gaza Strip, the more Iran will ignite additional battlefields.

The last thing Biden wants is a full-scale war. And who if not the Iranians, who know this, are directing their steps toward stopping the fighting through pressure from the United States and Europe on Israel

On October 27, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian was interviewed by Bloomberg News Agency.

He attacked Israel and said that if it continued to commit crimes and kill Palestinians, "opening more fronts would be inevitable, which would put Israel in a new situation that would make it regret its actions." He also stressed that "if the U.S. continues to do what it has been doing so far (i.e., unilateral support for Israel), then new fronts will open up against the U.S."

Since the 1979 revolution, Iran has sought to expand its ring of threats against Israel and the United States. To this end, the Islamic Republic has strengthened its ties with terrorist organizations operating in the Middle East and built the "Resistance Camp": a political-military alliance led by Iran, which includes Syria, Hezbollah (in Lebanon and Iraq), the Houthis in Yemen, Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad and other Shiite militias in East Asia. Of them all, Hezbollah is the most important. Hezbollah is "the front of the Islamic world's struggle against the Zionist enemy," Iranian ruler Ali Khamenei said in July 2000.

Indeed, the close connection between the Shi'ite terrorist organization and Tehran can also be seen from Hassan Nasrallah's declaration on March 12, 2018, that Hezbollah is committed to loyalty to the rule of Iran's cleric, Ayatollah Khamenei, over its loyalty to the Lebanese constitution. Nasrallah also admitted that this is not only religious loyalty, but also military loyalty, since Hezbollah is committed to the instructions and suggestions of the supreme ruler. Therefore, Yahya Rahim Safavi, former commander of the Revolutionary Guards and now Khamenei's senior military advisor, allowed himself to say that "Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah sees himself as a soldier of the Supreme Leader of Iran."

Thus, the deeper the ground incursion into Gaza and the greater the voices of a humanitarian disaster in the Gaza Strip, the more Iran will ignite additional battlefields vis-à-vis Israel and the United States in order to exert pressure on them. Iran will not throw all its protégés into the battle at once, certainly not Hezbollah, but will operate its assets according to their level of importance in its eyes (from low to high) and in varying sequences. Indications of this can be seen in the backlog of events that have taken place since 7 October, including: the transfer of some 100 IRGC fighters to southern Syria near the border with Israel; an attack on three US bases in Iraq and eastern Syria by pro-Iranian militias; missile and drone launches by the Houthis from Yemen; firing into Israel from Daraa and Quneitra in Syria; And of course, repeated attacks by Hezbollah and other organizations on Israel from Lebanese territory.

At the same time, there is another front to which Iran is directing – the social front in Europe and the United States. In an interview with Bloomberg, Abdollahian also emphasized this point: "In the streets of the United States and in Europe... People are demonstrating, condemning Israel's war crimes against the people of Gaza. The feelings of these people have reached the brink of explosion, so anything is possible and any front can be opened." In fact, the Iranian foreign minister sent a threat of a domestic uprising by Muslims who support the Palestinians, implicitly saying that Iran had a hand in the matter.

On the other side, the Americans see the pro-Iranians preparing in the Middle East with high vigilance. But the last thing President Biden wants is a full-scale war. And who if not the Iranians, who know this, are directing their steps toward stopping the fighting through pressure from the United States and Europe on Israel? American support, Abdollahian said, "will cause escalation... Israel's confrontation with Hamas will spread into a broader regional war... The American side has to decide if it wants to intensify the war." For Tehran, the ball is in Washington and it must decide what it intends to do. Let Israel defeat Hamas and risk escalation, or stop. In any case, the Iranian foreign minister noted: "We are not just watching developments. In accordance with our national interests, the Islamic Republic of Iran will take action."
