Big Brother contestant Roy Reinisch celebrates his 27th birthday on Tuesday and shares how complicated it is for him. The coincidence between his birthday of 7.11, the date of the attack from which he survived 19 years ago, and the date of the war that broke out about a month ago is difficult for him. Since then, he has been in reserve duty and his younger brother, a reconnaissance soldier, is now inside Gaza.

Roy wrote in an Instagram post he shared with his followers: "7.11.2023, today I celebrate my 27th birthday with mixed feelings. On the night of 6-7.10.1973, on the last evening of Sukkot, the eve of Simchat Torah, the Yom Kippur War broke out. On 7 October 10, on the last night of Sukkot – Simchat Torah, I was injured in a terrorist attack in Sinai and I gained life.

"19 years later, on October 7, 10, on Simchat Torah night, I was called up to reserve duty on Black Saturday with a huge privilege to defend my country, to sanctify life, and in the same breath on that day some part of me died. Absurd coincidences... The irony combined with the pain, guilt and questions that come up every day reminds me first to appreciate and say thank you for what I have and not as a cliché because that's all. I wish for myself and for the entire State of Israel that these dates will symbolize only love, victory and hope in the coming years.

"On that note, I send strength to my amazing little brother who is currently fighting in Gaza with his cruiser and I am next to him and behind him always. I love you, miss you madly and am the proudest in the world!"
