One of those killed Tuesday night in the fighting in the northern Gaza Strip was Captain Yedidya Asher Lev, from the village of Tal Menashe in northern Samaria. Yedidia, 27, was a staff sergeant in Givati's Shaked Battalion and was supposed to be discharged a few months ago, but asked his commanders to extend his permanent term. Yedidya is survived by his parents, Noam and Orna, a brother and six sisters. Tal Menashe said: "We are pained by the difficult loss, a man who is all heroism and a heart of modesty and simplicity."

Yedidya was the eldest of his brothers and sisters. He studied at the high school in Shavei Hebron, and before that at high school in Yeshiva Sha'alvim. Yedidya served in the army and was supposed to be discharged from service several months ago, but at the request of his commanders he extended his service. Yedidya grew up in Tal Menashe in Samaria, his family from rooted families in northern Samaria and both his parents are educators.

Tal Menashe mourns his passing: "We are pained by the terrible loss of the Lev family. From our dear and heroic sons. I love the Land of Israel with all my heart. Sensitive and caring, a man of bravery and heart. Modesty and simplicity."

The head of the Samaria Council, Yossi Dagan, eulogized him: "The entire Samaria family mourns the passing of its friends, always the first to help in everything. Yedidya was a member of an old family. He was killed fighting for this land, for the return of the abductees and the restoration of security for the people of Israel and the State of Israel. We will embrace the family and accompany them in everything we can."
