At this hour, Sergeant Major Gal Meir Eisenkot, son of Minister Gadi Eisenkot, a member of the War Cabinet and former Chief of Staff, is laid to rest in the Pinsker Cemetery in Herzliya. Gal, 25, was killed in combat in the heart of the Gaza Strip on the 62nd day of the war.
Gal, Gadi Eizenkot's youngest son, enlisted in Shayetet 13 and served as a medic in Magellan. He was drafted into the 699th Reserve under the 551st Brigade, and was subordinate to the 162nd Division. He was killed during searches in Jabaliya as a result of the explosion of a booby-trapped shaft prepared in advance by Hamas terrorists. He was evacuated in critical condition to Assuta Ashdod, where he was pronounced dead.
