Reports – The US Secretary of Defense's messages that Israel will not like: Lloyd Austin, who will land in the morning, is expected to pressure Israel to reduce the intensity of the fighting. That's according to a Sunday night report in The New York Times. The report relies on three Biden administration officials.
Austin is expected to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Galant. According to U.S. officials, the discussions will revolve around the new phase of the war, which the Americans want to include fewer elite units. These forces will enter and leave Gaza's population centers more precisely, with the goal of eliminating senior Hamas figures, releasing hostages and destroying tunnels.
Earlier, CNN reported that Austin would urge Israel to set interim goals and a road map for the Gaza war. During his visit to Israel tomorrow, he is expected to be briefed on Israel's assessment of their progress in dismantling Hamas' military infrastructure.
