It is not surprising that following the terrible failure of October 7, a failure of biblical proportions, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seeks to change the name of the war from Iron Swords to another name, a name with biblical significance. Iron Swords, he reportedly told the ministers he consulted, is the name of an operation. This is a war.
There is room to establish a different name, mainly because the first one chosen is problematic - as we know, iron rusts and breaks. It is worthwhile to have a name that will be preserved for years.
The three leading names are the Genesis War, no less, which is reported to be Netanyahu's preferred name (because it sounds good in English too - Genesis), the Gaza War and the Simchat Torah War.
I assume that the last name will be disqualified, because joy and war do not go together, even if the brutal attack on the communities near the Gaza Strip broke out on the morning of the holiday. It is not clear why the prime minister is dealing with this in the midst of the fighting, which he himself claims will continue for much longer.
Precisely as someone who recently compared himself to the founder of the state, David Ben-Gurion, as the son of a historian and a history expert himself, he surely knows that the name of the War of Independence, the one that defined the borders of the state, as the War of Independence, was not Ben-Gurion's decision. He actually wanted the war to be called the War of Rebellion. Because we got up and survived. Menachem Begin preferred that they call the war the War of Independence. In the end, the people who determined the name of that war in 1948 were simply the people, who preferred the name "War of Independence." In any case, the name did not become fixed until two years after the war, in 1950.
The Yom Kippur War did not need a copywriter to determine its name. It was clear to everyone that this was her name. 1982 is the year of the First Lebanon War. At first it was called Operation Shalag - Operation Peace for Galilee. At a certain point, the Peace for Galilee campaign was called, and this was also the signal received by IDF soldiers, who fought in the same war that lasted for many years, took a heavy toll in human lives and led to his seclusion in the home of Prime Minister Menachem Begin, who found it difficult to meet the price in the soldiers' lives.

It would be better for the prime minister to focus more on substance and less on visibility
In this case, too, the name – the First Lebanon War – became fixed in the public at a later stage. Not for nothing, when another war broke out in 2006, it was naturally called the Second Lebanon War.
This time, too, instead of looking for bombastic names like Genesis, it is better to maintain modesty when it comes to this omission. The name will not change the fact that the war is intended to restore trust and the peace of the surrounding communities whose residents Hamas massacred, that the war is taking place in Gaza, and that the price is very high.
It is quite disturbing that the prime minister is copywriting in the midst of the fighting, that he is engaged in politics and says that he is the only one who will prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state in Gaza. He, unlike Ben-Gurion, knows how to say no to the Americans. All this boastfulness, standing on stage at a police conference and throwing rhetorical questions to the audience: "Shall we continue in Gaza?" is unbelievable. It would be better for the prime minister to focus more on substance and less on visibility. However you look at it, after the terrible failure there will be no victory picture, and no name will change that either. What is important is that the residents of the envelope be able to return safely to their homes. We wouldn't want more than that.
