Matan Levy, a reserve soldier, was mortally wounded in an iron sword war and went blind - on Thursday he was awarded a law graduate certificate by the president of the college and the dean.
A moving ceremony was held at Sheba Hospital in Tel Hashomer, during which Matan Levy, a graduate of the Academic Center for Law and Business, who was mortally wounded in the war and lost his sight, was awarded an LL.B degree certificate in law.

Sergeant Major Levy, a reserve soldier in Battalion 8111 of the 5th Brigade, was wounded in mid-October by a mortar shell fired at an IDF force during mopping up operations in Kibbutz Nirim near the Gaza Strip. As a result of the injury, Matan lost his sight and sustained limb injuries, and since then he has been undergoing rehabilitation at the Sheba Integrated Rehabilitation Hospital at Tel Hashomer.

In the months before the fighting, Matan completed his law studies at the Academic Center for Law and Business in Ramat Gan, where they heard about his injury and decided to come and grant him his degree.
Those who awarded him the diploma were the President of the Ramat Gan Academic Center for Law and Business, Prof. Yoram Belcher, and the Dean of the Law School, Prof. Avichai Mandelblit. The Director General of the Academic Center, Ilana Tessler, even awarded him a full scholarship to study for a master's degree in law, and announced her intention to continue helping him realize his dream of becoming a criminal lawyer.
"I am very excited and full of gratitude," Matan said during the ceremony. "I am full of hope and pride in the army, the security forces and the police, the medical personnel and the entire people of Israel, who united together to win this accursed war. I hope that after this war ends, we will complete the sacred goal - which is that we, the people of Israel, will live here in the State of Israel in peace and security."

Also participating in the ceremony were Prof. Amitai Ziv, Director of the Integrated Rehabilitation Hospital; Amit Bahar, Chairman of the Israel Bar Association; Family and friends. Prof. Belcher added: "Your willpower embodies your ability to cope with new situations with determination and dedication to the goal. These qualities, together with the abilities that led you to receive the coveted degree, will pave the way for you to become an excellent lawyer."
