In an explosive decision, the Colorado Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that former President Donald Trump's candidacy in the state is constitutionally barred.

"A majority of the court holds that President Trump is disqualified from holding the office of president under Section Three of the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States," the ruling reads. "Because he is disqualified, it would be an unlawful act under the Election Code for the Colorado Secretary of State to include him as a candidate on the presidential primary ballot."

The ruling, the first of its kind, stems from a lawsuit that focused on a little-known provision of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Similar challenges in other states have been unsuccessful.
