After Minister Ben-Gvir decided that he would not extend the term of IPS Commissioner Kathy Perry and caused a storm following his statement that he is not committed to the coalition agreement between the Likud and the state camp, he announced today (Thursday) the replacement for the position of Acting Commissioner of the Israel Prison Service - Commissioner Kobi Yaakobi, who currently serves as security secretary in the Ministry of National Security.
Major General Yaakobi, 50, married and father of four, began his career in the Israel Police as a Special Patrol Unit soldier. He served in a variety of positions, including commander of the Zion area, commander of Moriah station, deputy commander of the Shalem station, deputy commander and acting commander of the Harel station, senior advisor to the director general of the Ministry of Public Security, assistant head of the traffic division and more.
Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir: "Commissioner Kobi Yaakobi is the right person to lead the Israel Prison Service during this period, as acting commissioner. Yaakobi is a decorated, respected, offensive, professional and sharp police officer – and that's exactly what the IPS needs now."
