The Israeli government often repeats that the 2 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are hostages of Hamas. This is not wrong, as this Islamist movement, affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, has never bothered to democratically consult the people of Gaza since it took control of the territory by force in 2007.
But is this a reason to systematically destroy the infrastructure and apartment buildings of this 365 km2 land, populated by 2 million Palestinians, and under occupation by Israel since 1967? Isn't the IDF pushing its risk-transfer tactics too far (minimum risk to its soldiers, maximum risk to Palestinian civilians, even if it never intentionally targets them)? Isn't it embarrassed by the extent of the collateral damage it is doing in its hunt for Hamas terrorists? Is it legitimate to simply destroy a hundred houses...
