Egyptian sources said Monday evening that talks on an agreement to release abductees had officially resumed. This was after they were frozen due to the killing of senior Hamas figure Saleh Arouri in Beirut. The Egyptian source told the newspaper Al-Arabi Al-Jadid that the Israeli delegation had arrived in Cairo this evening.

According to the report, the talks were renewed following pressure from outside and from within on Israel to bring an end to the fighting. However, it should be noted that the fighting has not really stopped, and the IDF is still operating in the southern and central Gaza Strip, while cleansing operations are being carried out in the northern Gaza Strip.
Watch: The moment of al-Arouri's assassination in Beirut
Since the collapse of the ceasefire, Hamas has demanded a comprehensive cessation of fighting as a precondition for any negotiations. As noted, after the assassination of Saleh Arouri, deputy head of Hamas' political bureau, Hamas announced that the talks would be suspended until further notice.
