Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Friday that his country had sent testimonies and documents to the International Criminal Court in The Hague to support South Africa's claim against Israel on the grounds that the Jewish state is committing genocide in the Gaza Strip.
According to Erdogan, who spoke to reporters in Istanbul, Turkey provided testimonies, mainly video clips and photos, to the court. In addition, the Turkish president said that his country intends to continue sending testimony to the court.

"I believe Israel will be convicted there. We believe in the justice of the International Court of Justice in The Hague," Erdogan told reporters. Since the Iron Sword War began, Erdogan has spoken out against Israel countless times, accusing it of genocide and even convening mass rallies in support of Hamas and the Palestinians. Erdogan claimed that Hamas was a movement of "freedom fighters" and compared Prime Minister Netanyahu to Hitler.
Erdogan's remarks were also intended, apparently primarily, for domestic political purposes. Erdogan is currently preparing to fight to regain control of the Istanbul and Ankara municipalities in local elections after his party lost control of them in 2020.
