In the shadow of the American coalition's attack on Yemen, Iran is sending the United States a provocative message: Tehran's navy released a video on Friday showing the takeover of the oil tanker St. Nicholas in the Persian Gulf.
The video shows an airborne force of the Iranian naval commando carrying out an operational descent to the ship using ropes, as well as footage from the takeover of the vessel's command room. In addition, the supervision of the operation of the force commanders is visible.
Iranian navy takeover of oil tanker in Persian Gulf
The oil tanker that was attacked was the St. Nicholas, sailing under the flag of the Marshall Islands. It is alleged that it made its way from the port of um Qasr in Iraq to Turkey. The tanker was previously detained and confiscated by the United States after transporting Iranian oil in violation of sanctions.
Iran claimed it was an American oil tanker, but the ship is owned by a Greek company and most of its crew is made up of Filipino nationals. The company that owns the ship denied any connection between the vessel and the United States.
