Ex-BMW electric expert Carsten Breitfeld makes a new start. After two stops in China, he now takes over the management of ailing e-mobile producer Faraday Future in Silicon Valley.

For years now troubled electric car developer Faraday Future is trying to reboot with a former BMW manager at the helm. The China-funded company based in California appointed Carsten Breitfeld as its new boss. Founder Jia Yueting, who most recently headed up the business and is considered Faraday Future's principal backer, wants to continue as Product Director.

Breitfeld had once promoted the development of the electric hybrid sports car i8 at BMW. Most recently he was the co-founder and chief of the Chinese electric car company Byton in the limelight, whose first model had a huge display over the entire dashboard. Breitfeld left Byton in the spring and became the boss of the Chinese competitor Iconiq Motors - but gives up this job after only a few months.

Faraday Future cared for the launch in early 2016 as a challenger to the electric car pioneer Tesla. The promised luxury electric car FF91 is still not on the market. Breitfeld takes over his new position before the start of production and should also oversee the development of the broader audience model FF81, said Faraday Future on Tuesday.

In recent years, there have been repeated reports of financial problems in the corporate network of Jia Yueting, which also affected Faraday Future. For example, the company shelved plans to build a plant in Nevada that cost $ 1 billion. In the meantime, the former BMW manager Stefan Krause Faraday Future as CFO was to stabilize - but he went in 2017, according to media reports in the dispute with Jia Yueting. The saving billions investment, thanks to which Faraday Future remained in business at that time, came from the Chinese real estate conglomerate Evergrande.
