According to Philippe Lourenço, the director of the supermarket, quoted by our colleagues, "theft is a recurring problem in Cergy, it is the only store in France where we observe as much this phenomenon" . From 200 to 300 carts would be stolen each year, which represents an annual financial loss - at the rate of € 170 per cart - of about € 50,000 each year for the brand.
From now on, the shopping trolleys will be equipped with a wheel lock system at the limit of each entrance door of the 3 Fontaines, and at the exit of the car parks.

Several residents questioned by Le Parisien , exasperated by the "pollution" caused by the abandonment of trolleys in the public space, welcome the measure. "I even found one on the roof of a bus stop once, no, but frankly it's just anything," says a retiree on a daily basis. "We see everywhere trolleys, at the foot of buildings there are dozens. The kids play with it and it hits the doors, the cars. It's dangerous, " says a resident.
The PS mayor of the commune, Jean-Paul Jeandon, also welcomes the initiative, condemning the "scourge" of this "ecological and visual pollution" which he says "the growing incivism in our society . "
But other residents are less enthusiastic. Among them, a mother of six is worried about how she can now bring her water and milk packs back to her home. Same question for a student living in a neighborhood near the shopping center: "When we do a night, we bring the beer packs to the residence carriage, it's convenient. "
