Huawei threatens a defeat on the German mobile market: The Bundestag factions of the Union and SPD want to commit according to "Handelsblatt" in a joint application for criteria for the expansion of the new 5G network, which would in fact lead to an exclusion of the controversial company.
In the draft the federal government is called on to exclude manufacturers, with which the risk "of state influence without rule of law control, manipulation or espionage exists", are called it in the newspaper report. This should apply "both in the core and in the peripheral network".
The document does not mention names, but it is clear that the wording is aimed at Huawei, the report goes on to say. The final draft was not yet drafted, but greater resistance was not to be expected either. In January, the motion should be passed in plenary.
For Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) that would be a defeat. It favors a technical approval procedure that does not involve evaluations by the producer countries. She fears that excluding Huawei could trigger a trade dispute with China.
Even Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier (CDU) represented this position for a long time, but now moves away from it apparently. According to "Handelsblatt" Altmaier said the political group SPD a political approval.
