The Carrefour brand, which is already present in Taiwan, a country spared by the Covid-19, with 137 stores including 69 convenience stores under the Market brand, is moving into high gear.
The French retailer has just concluded an agreement with Dairy Farm to acquire Wellcome Taiwan for € 97 million. According to Carrefour, this acquisition on "attractive terms" will allow it to continue its development.
Carrefour plans to convert the 199 stores out of the 224 bought back under the Market brand during the 12 months following the transaction, then 25 others under a Carrefour premium brand.
These stores will also serve as relay points for e-commerce.
Thus, Carrefour will become number 2 in local trade in this country where the growth potential is significant. In 2019, Carrefour generated revenue of 1.97 billion euros excluding tax in this country, with a profit of 83 million euros.
