Two branded products performed best, but sometimes you can get good quality for little money: Stiftung Warentest has tested numerous baby diapers. One often caused skin irritation.

A child is swaddled about 5000 times before it is dry.

Parents have to buy a corresponding number of diapers.

And quality is correspondingly important.

In this regard, a current test by Stiftung Warentest is good news for parents who cannot or do not want to spend a lot of money: Among the diapers rated as “good” were some that were only around half as expensive as two branded products with the grade "very good".

Specifically, the Stiftung Warentest had more than a hundred families with 254 small children tested a total of eleven size four disposable diapers.

Most of them are marked with the attribute »Maxi«.

They are usually intended for children who weigh around 8 to 14 kilograms.

This size is therefore required for a long time, for example from the first to the third birthday.

More skin irritation with a diaper

The best diapers in the test were two products from Pampers: the “Premium Protection” for 26 cents each and the “Baby-Dry” for 21 cents each received the grade “very good”.

According to the test, they are comfortable and also kept the children drier than the competition at night.

Five more diapers were rated “good”, including three retail brands with a unit price of 12 and 13 cents respectively: “Babylove Premium” from dm, “Lupilu soft & dry” from Lidl and “Elkos Baby Glück” from Edeka.

With an estimated consumption of five diapers a day, parents saved up to 255 euros a year compared to the test winner, said the Stiftung Warentest.

The other four products tested were rated “satisfactory” or “sufficient”.

None of the diapers tested contained harmful substances.

However, 40 percent of children had skin irritation after wearing the "Baby Bear" diapers from Amazon, almost twice as many as with other diapers.

In addition, the diaper held back the liquid poorly, especially at night.

The Amazon product performed worst in the test with the grade "sufficient".
