The Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform estimated the production of this season's pear at more than 17.5 thousand tons.
The director of plant production in the ministry, Eng. Ahmed Haidar, said in a statement to SANA that the governorate of Damascus countryside ranks first with a quantity of more than 11.5 thousand tons, then Lattakia with a quantity of more than 2.7 thousand tons, and then As-Suwayda with a quantity of 1,405 tons, pointing out that the amount of production in the previous season amounted to 19,443 tons.
Haidar confirmed that the areas planted with pear trees amount to about 3701 hectares, of which 2020, 2020 hectares is irrigated and the rest is baal, pointing out that the largest cultivated area in Damascus countryside is about 2327 hectares. Deep muddy lands rich in nutrients are well drained and aerated.
