The “interest rate support” program that the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade is working on, according to its signed agreement with banks operating in Syria, aims to support the recovery of the national economy sectors, as the number of beneficiaries approaches 200 agricultural and industrial projects, according to the ministry’s data.
According to a ministry statement, which SANA received a copy of, the scope of the program’s application was determined based on a set of considerations related to development priorities, the geographical distribution of projects, and the social dimension, meaning that it reflects positively on the living reality of citizens.
The number of beneficiaries of the program has so far reached 196 in the industrial and agricultural fields, as the loans granted at subsidized interest rates have focused on projects for the manufacture of knitted fabrics, threads, dyestuffs, cardboard and aluminum tubes, in addition to the rehabilitation of some damaged facilities in Aleppo governorate specialized in the production of medicines, automated weaving and carpets, while the loans granted were concentrated At subsidized interest rates in the agricultural field, in particular, on “poultry, beef and fertilizers.”
The ministry aims, according to its statement, in its plan for the program during the current year 2022, to expand the scope of benefiting from the program, both sectorally and geographically, to achieve the goals that it has set since its launch at the end of 2019, which is to accelerate the process of economic recovery.
In 2019, the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade signed an agreement with public and private banks specifying the mechanism for benefiting from the “interest rate support” program and arranging the mechanisms for granting loans, while the Council of Ministers agreed on the 28th of last January to extend the work for one year only with the “interest rate support program” ... local production.
