The US trade deficit in goods widened sharply in March amid a surge in imports indicating that trade continued to put pressure on economic growth in the first quarter.
The US Commerce Department said in a statement today, reported by Reuters: The goods trade deficit jumped 17.8 percent to $125.3 billion.
Imports accelerated by 11.5 percent, outpacing the 7.2 percent increase in exports, while trade reduced GDP growth for six consecutive quarters, according to the ministry's statement.
