The Aniche plant (Nord) was the scene of a world first.
For a week, at the beginning of May, Saint-Gobain manufactured 2,000 tonnes of flat glass there - that used in the construction industry - while producing no carbon.
“It's a
real technological feat
,” enthuses Benoit d'Iribarne, director of technology and industrial performance at Saint-Gobain.
To achieve this, the building materials giant used 100% recycled glass (known as cullet) and 100% green energy.

“You have to work on recycling to have enough secondary raw material,”

To obtain a final quality of glass that meets Saint-Gobain standards, you need high-quality cullet, and it must come exclusively from the deconstruction of buildings.
