Work, work, save gas: In the southwest, doing without is proverbial. Baden-Württemberg's green head of state is now calling for 20 percent less gas to be used.

After a so-called gas summit, Baden-Württemberg's state government announced a campaign to save energy.

With this, the state wants to give the population, administration and economy suggestions for saving gas and electricity, said Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann.

The aim is to reduce gas consumption by 20 percent, Kretschmann continued.

"That's possible, then there will be no gas shortage." Even small contributions counted.

»Many peanuts become one big nut.«

In discussions with the head of the Federal Network Agency, Klaus Müller, it was once again stated that the strong companies in the south-west should not be the ones who were "pinched", said Kretschmann.

Here, too, saving energy is an important prerequisite.

Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU) said at the event that the common goal was to avoid the next energy alarm level with the savings.

Because then strict bans would have to be issued.

“Everyone can make a contribution to avoiding that,” said Strobl.

Kretschmann had invited representatives from municipalities, business and energy suppliers.

The summit is important and appropriate, said the CEO of the state-owned energy supplier EnBW, Frank Mastiaux.

The opposition FDP criticized the fact that measures that open up new energy sources were not discussed.
