American Airlines announces an agreement with the Gevo company, which deals in the field of Biofuel, regarding the supply of sustainable SAF biofuel for a period of five years, under which the airline undertakes to purchase 500 million gallons of sustainable biofuel.

This agreement joins the Oneworld agreement, a first cooperation agreement of its kind between airlines, in which the goal of reaching zero carbon emissions by 2050 was announced. As an intermediate goal, the signatory companies aim to replace 10% of polluting jet fuel with sustainable biofuel by 2030. The agreement with Gevo Promotes American Airlines to the realization of about 20% of the target.

The goal: to pollute less.

As part of its climate efforts, American Airlines is the first airline with a science-based target, reducing emissions by 45 percent by 2035, approved by the Science-Based Targets initiative.

In addition, American received an "A-" grade from the CDP Climate Change organization, the highest grade among North American airlines and one of only two companies to receive such a high grade among all global airlines.

Jill Bekstein, Director of Sustainability at American Airlines, states that the agreement is a historic step for American Airlines and the airline industry.

As we continue to work to reduce our carbon footprint, the use of sustainable fuel is a milestone in our strategy to prevent carbon emissions while flying.

Alongside our partnership with the Oneworld agreement, we are proud to lead the transition to sustainable fuel and move towards the climate goals we all share."
