Some 40% of the workforce of the Engie group (ex-GDF Suez) with the status of electricians and gas workers are on strike against the pension reform project, said the French energy company on Thursday afternoon.
For the other French employees of the group, under private law, the rate of strikers was 7%, according to Engie.

24,000 employees of the Engie group, or 55% of the total workforce for France, have the status of the electricity and gas industries and benefit from a special pension scheme.
The pension reform project would change the method of calculating pensions to their disadvantage, which is currently much more advantageous than the general scheme.
Despite this social movement, "
we do not anticipate any consequences for customers
," said Engie management to AFP.
