The criminals could have left with a hundred times more loot if they had had a little more discernment. This Friday in Marseille, three robbers attacked an armored van but they only left with costume jewelry worth around 6,000 euros. Inside, however, were jewels estimated at around 600,000 euros, we learned from the prosecution, confirming information from La Provence.
The attack took place Friday at the end of the morning, in ten minutes, in the parking lot of the Valentine shopping center, in the east of Marseille, according to the prosecution and the judicial police.
Target of the three men, dressed in black, gloved and hooded, at least one of which was equipped with a Kalashnikov-type weapon: an unmarked armored van came to deliver jewelry to a shopping mall, explained the deputy interregional director of the Marseille judicial police, Philippe Frizon.
Most of the boxes were empty
"This is the kind of van that delivers values to different brands so, yes, they had benefited from a very good tip," says a regional daily close to the file.
After threatening the two conveyors and spraying the van with flammable product, the three robbers seized several boxes and a bag, before setting fire to the Renault Megane with which they had arrived and leaving the premises on board of a second vehicle.
Problem for the three men: most of these boxes were empty, and their booty, costume jewelry, much less than that imagined, confirmed the deputy public prosecutor of Marseille, Patrice Ollivier-Maurel: "6,000 euros instead the 600,000 euros of jewelry left in the van ”.

"The damage is extremely minimal in the end," commented the prosecutor of the Republic of Marseille, Dominique Laurens. The robbers are still wanted by investigators from the Bandit Suppression Brigade.
