While fuel prices are soaring and have crossed the seven-shekel mark, it turns out that there are those who try to take advantage of the innocence of drivers who do not pay attention to the gap between what is written on the ordering signs and the actual price charged for refueling.

The Magistrate's Court in Be'er Sheva approved a plea agreement with the Delek Tel Shoket gas station (station number 2906) at the Tel Shoket junction, which was charged with two counts: placing an external sign showing the price of fuel lower than the actual price charged and not placing internal signs inside the station.

The specifications of the case that reached the court following an investigation by the Ministry of Energy show that the station sold gasoline at a price that exceeds 9 cents on the price displayed on the sign outside the station, which was NIS 6.04 per liter of gasoline.

Also, on the sign outside the station it was announced that the price of diesel is NIS 6.93 per liter of diesel, when in practice a higher amount is charged by 18 agorot.

The representative of the gas station admitted before the court the charge attributed to the owners of the station, which was fined, as stated, NIS 15,000.

The court also imposed a conditional fine of NIS 30,000 on the station in the event of a similar offense in the next two years.

Number of cases per year of expropriation or deception

As mentioned, those who discovered the price gaps are inspectors from the Fuel and Gas Administration in the Ministry of Energy as part of ongoing activities in 2021 and in light of the findings, an investigation was opened and an indictment was filed against the station and its owners.

The Ministry of Energy knew how to tell Walla that there are a few such cases a year and they are mainly divided into two types: misleading consumers as in the case in question where the gas station charged consumers a higher amount of money than what is written on the signage, or charged more money.

The order of magnitude of the fines is in the range of tens of thousands of shekels.

Chen Bar Yosef, Director of the Fuel and Gas Administration at the Ministry of Energy

: "The Fuel and Gas Administration at the ministry will continue to take care of the public and carry out enforcement actions to comply with the law. .

Adv. Ilan Abbas, from the Legal Bureau of the Ministry of Energy

"The combined activity of the Fuel and Gas Administration and the legal work of the prosecution in the Legal Bureau of the Ministry of Energy, leads to results. We in the ministry work for the benefit of consumers, and alongside focused enforcement, protect the rights of Israeli drivers. We see great importance in enforcing offenses that harm consumers."
