After threats about possible export closures from the Secretary of Internal Trade Paula Español, the Government and the
meat packing companies
agreed to
extend the price agreement for eight cuts of meat until the end of April.
The agreement
initially expired on March 31
but had been extended until mid-April under the same conditions.
And now it will be extended for another 15 days, until the end of the month.
The program includes
matambre, roast strip, vacuum, brisket, roast top and brisket.
During the next two weeks, meat processing plants and the government will
negotiate the conditions to be adopted by the program once the extension ends
.
The announcement of the extension came after a meeting between directors of the ABC Exporter Consortium and Interior Commerce.
The head of the entity, Mario Ravettino, announced that "what we decided was to extend the agreement until the end of the month,
to advance the pending issues of the negotiations."

As indicated by the manager in statements to the Mercadovisión program of Canal Rural,
one of the issues that worries the chain is informality
, with companies that under-invoice external sales.
In this sense, he acknowledged that they seek to solve this problem.
"Then, we will establish a more durable agreement over time, with the participation of more exporting companies and meat packing plants."
And he added:
"Let's hope that next week we will reach an agreement."
The head of ABC pointed out that it
will be difficult to maintain current values,
due to the increase in services, the standing farm and the impact of joint ventures.
The plan had started last February, amid the rise in prices for meat over the counter.
It started with discounts of up to 30% in the values compared to those in force in December, and in more than 1000 points of sale throughout the country.
To the eight cuts at agreed prices are added the two that are in Care Prices.
Negotiations with the export refrigeration industry, which is the one that allocates between 5,500 and 6,000 tons per month to comply with the plan, began weeks ago.
The main sector concern is the escalation in farm values and the difficulties in exporting in a context of more than volatile demand.
