(ANSA) - ROME, MARCH 01 - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has received the first vaccine against the coronavirus produced in India, thus starting an acceleration of the immunization campaign in the continent.
The Guardian reports it.
From today on the continent can be vaccinated people over 60 and those over 45 with certain diseases.
India, which has recorded the largest number of Covid-19 cases in the world after the United States, has vaccinated more than 12 million healthcare workers and frontline workers to date.
"It is remarkable how quickly our doctors and scientists have been working to strengthen the global fight against the coronavirus," Modi wrote on Twitter, posting a photo while being vaccinated in a New Delhi hospital.
"I appeal to all who can be vaccinated. Together, let's make India free from Covid!"
