The US actress Anne Heche is apparently no longer in mortal danger after a serious car accident in Los Angeles.

The condition of the 53-year-old is stable, said Heche's podcast partner Heather Duffy Boylston at the weekend.

"Her family and friends are asking that they be thought of and prayed for, and that their privacy be respected at this difficult time."

The police and fire brigade had reported the accident in the Mar Vista district without naming the driver.

According to consistent media reports, however, it was Heche.
