Today is the second day of the CGIL Congress in Rimini.

Protected by the CGIL security service by flashes and cameras, the secretary of the Pd Elly Schlein met the secretary of the CGIL Maurizio Landini and the leader of the M5S Giuseppe Conte for a brief conversation before the round table organized by the trade union congress in Rimini.

LIVE

Work and contracts, the fight against precariousness, tax cuts for workers and pensioners, social security, health and safety, the minimum wage and even a reduction in working hours with short working hours: the general secretary of the CGIL, Maurizio Landini, opens the XIX national congress in Rimini, "Work creates the future", and lists the issues dearest to the union.

On which Cisl and Uil are pressing to mobilize and challenge the government, because the reforms are done with the "true" confrontation, are shared and implemented with the world of work and "not against".

Because "it's time for answers to people's needs", he articulates from the stage, thus also explaining the invitation to the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, whose speech is scheduled for Friday 17 at the Palacongessi in Rimini.

And right from the start, the wait is concentrated precisely on the presence of the premier.

Among the fears of disputes, the position of the minority within the CGIL makes room, with the first signatory of the second congress document, Eliana Como, who says she is "very annoyed" by Meloni's participation in the congress: "We will protest, we will leave the room when will be announced and we will be visible" showing a stole that recalls the one worn by Chiara Ferragni at the Sanremo Festival, with the words "Melons thought unwelcome".

They represent 2.4% of 986 delegates, underlined by the confederation: 24 elected with the second document "The roots of the union" and 962 with the first, "Work creates the future".

The CGIL, Landini once again claims, is an autonomous, democratic, pluralist trade union which deals "on equal terms" with everyone and which bases programs and actions "on the principles and values dictated by the Constitution".

And it is the Constitution and the "authoritative" role of the union that recalls the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in a message in which he underlines how work is "closely linked to the cause of democracy, to peace, to people's freedom".

And he underlines the importance of the Pnrr, "an unmissable opportunity, now entrusted to the responsibility of all parties, political, institutional, economic, social".

The congress opens with a minute's silence for the victims of Cutro and the white band worn "as a sign of mourning and fraternity".

Landini speaks for over two hours to the audience of two thousand guests.

And the position is clear: "We claim the right to a preventive and true discussion on the reforms" with the government.

"But this is not happening: this is not good and we do not intend to stand by and watch," he warns.

In the background the mobilization.

This time together.

After the maneuver and "the old recipes" reproposed, the "fake meetings" on health and safety, pensions and school-work alternation, the meeting at Palazzo Chigi on the taxman where "yet another tear was registered" on the method and merit .

The road is not the reduction of income tax rates nor the flat tax,

but the cut to employees and pensioners who are 90% of taxpayers and pay taxes even for those who do not pay them, Landini repeats, in line with Cisl and Uil.

So much so that he asked the government to withdraw the fiscal delegation, expected tomorrow in the Council of Ministers, to also stop the project of differentiated autonomy, which in his opinion further divides the country, and to review the policies on migrants.

And it is the union leaders sitting in the audience that he addresses directly: "Dear Luigi and dear Pierpaolo, it is time to mobilize. Let's do it together" to support the proposals on taxation, health, pensions, wages "and decide on a program of initiatives without excluding no tool".

The response from Sbarra and Bombardieri is positive and strengthens the union front.

While Landini is preparing to lead the CGIL for a second four-year term.
