The British newspaper The Times confirmed that there is increasing evidence that the Turkish regime forces use white phosphorus during its aggression on Syrian territory, stressing that such crimes should be investigated "if international law has any meaning."

The newspaper warned in an editorial today entitled "Why the West refuses to investigate charges of Turkey using white phosphorus" that the decision of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons not to investigate the use of the Turkish regime of white phosphorus in Syria "is of great concern", stressing the need to investigate international crimes suspected "Without fear or prejudice and without taking into account who he thinks he is responsible for."

The paper criticized the organization's failure to speed up its investigation of the use of the Turkish system of white phosphorus on the grounds that it collected evidence and that the chemical is not prohibited, saying that this is just a deceptive pretext because, although white phosphorus is a major component in smoke shells in most NATO armies, its use is governed by the Geneva Convention Chemical weapons, which are permitted to be used in grenades and ammunition but are prohibited from being used directly as an incendiary substance.

"What we fear is that the reluctance of the international organization to investigate is a reflection of the West's desire not to embarrass an ally and a NATO member," the paper said, stressing that if the West did not respond to Turkey's use of banned substances, it would cause further violations of international law. This could lead to the use of such weapons in future wars without fear of consequences, she said.

Last month, the newspaper monitored an investigation titled “Growing Evidence of Turkey's Use of White Phosphorus in Syria,” the suffering and pain of victims of internationally prohibited weapons attacks used by Turkish regime forces, indicating that the serious injuries and burns suffered by civilians as a result of the Turkish aggression appear to have been caused by something much worse. The explosions are the best evidence of the use of the internationally banned white phosphorus by the NATO-member Turkish regime against Syrian civilians.

On October 9, the Turkish regime and its mercenaries from terrorist organizations began an aggression on Syrian territory in the Hasaka and Raqqa countryside, which resulted in the death and injury of tens of civilians and the displacement of tens of thousands of them from their homes, in addition to the destruction and damage to the infrastructure of electricity, water and other sectors. It provides daily basic services to hundreds of thousands of civilians.
