On Saturday lunchtime, the bathers at Schönhagener Strand in Schleswig-Holstein had the pleasure - albeit unwanted. A wild boar got lost, apparently swimming for miles through the Baltic Sea until it went out of the water on the beach in Schönhagen . The sun worshipers were in a state of excitement.

Several videos of the stray animal circulated on social media . The sailor Claus Schlüter , who posted a video on Facebook , wrote: "At first we thought we were seeing a porpoise, but it didn't dive away." Schlüter explained that he and his colleagues weren't going to save the wild boar , but at least they were a change of course in the direction of Schönhagen . It was probably heading towards a restricted area. The sailor reported to the NDR : “The wild boar was really fast. You don't even think how fast they can move in the water. "
Baltic Sea: Bathing wild boar causes excitement on the beach
When the wild boar arrived at Schönhagener Strand , it caused a great deal of excitement among the bathers. Marcus Brandl , the guard director of the German Life Rescue Society (DLRG) reported the picture : “At first we thought it was a dog.” After looking through the binoculars, however, the lifeguard recognized that it was a wild boar .
“I immediately gathered all the DLRG workers on the beach. Then we got the guests out of the water and brought the children to safety. In the meantime, the wild boar even headed for a swimmer who was still in the water, but then turned away, ”explained Brandl . The bathers on the beach in Schönhagen were startled, as the Facebook video attached below shows. A woman asked in disbelief: "Where did that come from?"

As soon as the wild boar felt the solid ground of the Baltic Sea beach under its feet, it started running. At first it raced towards a helper who was able to fend off the animal with a shovel. Then the wild boar zigzagged its way through the beach chairs and towels of the tourists towards the cliff. None of the bathers was injured in the action.
It is not yet known why the wild boar swam in the Baltic Sea . The district leaseholder Otto Nagel said to Bild : "I assume that the approximately three-year-old Bache was startled by harvest work and fled into the water in a panic, then was driven by the current towards Schönhagener Strand." He also praised the controlled behavior of the bathers . If the animal had felt pressured, there would probably have been injuries, said the 73-year-old.
