A tornado hit the south of Charente-Maritime late in the afternoon in the Oléron area, reports France Bleu Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
Firefighters intervened on more than forty sites and the provisional toll shows three minor injuries.
About fifty roofs are also said to be damaged.
The commune of Château-d'Oléron has been particularly affected.
According to
France Bleu
, 25 buildings were damaged, including a supermarket, a nursing home and a nursery.
A motorhome was also completely blown up, while a family saw a violent squall through their house.
The coast was also affected and there are several fallen trees and three children slightly injured in an equestrian center near the town of Marennes. More than sixty firefighters are mobilized in the area.
